Coming Total Solar Eclipses in 2017 and 2024 for North America

The next two total solar eclipses that will pass over North America will occur August 21, 2017, and April 8, 2024. It's interesting to see the paths these eclipses will take.

I realize the two eclipses are about 6 years and 8 months (nearly 7 years) apart, but my curiosity had to see where they would cross. Overlaid on top of each other, the crossing point is a lake between Pomona and Makanda, Illinois  (it's a bit blurry).

While probably insignificant, when looking at the maps I noticed how close the Mississippi river is to this point.

So, I had to do some research about the New Madrid fault, and was a little surprised about an apparent correlation between the quake damage map and the crossing point of the next two solar eclipses.

We know that the sun has an effect on the production of large earthquakes. I'm just guessing, but the moon might have a minor effect as well, particularly in an eclipse state where the gravitational forces of both the moon and sun are acting together. What if these eclipses serve to weaken the faults (that's not the best way to describe it) in the areas, making things more susceptible to a large earthquake striking? There have been visions of the United States being divided by a large earthquake along the Mississippi river basin.

New Madrid Earthquake information https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1811%E2%80%9312_New_Madrid_earthquakes. There were additional quakes of 7.4 on Dec 16, 1811, and a 7.3-7.6 on January 23, 1812, followed by a 7.5-8.0 on Feb 7, 1812. There were many other aftershocks in the 6-7 range.

You can note that the area of moderate-heavy damage (in the damage map above)  is near the area of Cedar Lake (designated by the map marker in the map below).

It would not surprise me if there were some particularly large earthquakes in North America in the months following the April 2024 eclipse.

As a side note, there was a annular solar eclipse on September 17, 1811, but it did not pass over the Cedar Lake area. It did reach the northern area of Illinois, according to the projection map.

Back to the coming total solar eclipses.

The Solar Eclipse in 2017 passes over Adam-Ondi-Ahman (just north of Gallatin and west of Jamesport, right at the edge of the track). You'll note that Liberty is marked in the south.

Near Liberty is Independence, the site where the New Jerusalem is to be centered.

The Solar Eclipse in 2024 passes over the Hill Cumorah and Sacred Grove areas, about a third of the distance between Rochester and Syracuse.

Also over Kirtland, Ohio (near Mentor, north and east of Cleveland)

Unfortunately, it doesn't pass directly over Nauvoo as it is north of the track.

Another thing to note, are the coming eclipses that will be over the United States.

21 August 2017 /30 Av/01 Elul 5777 Total solar eclipse.

Eclipse will go over most of Central Oregon from Salem entering Idaho near Ontario/Weiser. Then the eclipse goes straight over REXBURG (BYU Idaho) before hitting the Teton Range. The eclipse turns SE into Casper, Scottsbluff, and Lincoln NE before reaching its central area of totality near St Joseph Missouri.

The eclipse will be visible in its totality in Independence, Liberty Jail, Far West, Haun's Mill, and Adam Ondi Ahman (the latter barely enters in the northern limit of totality, Independence in the southern limit), cutting Missouri in half before entering Illinois over Cahokia, through Carbondale, through SW Kentucky, through central Tennessee, going through a sliver of North Carolina and Georgia before dividing South Carolina in two.

08 April 2024. 29 Ha-Adar/01 Nisan 5784. This eclipse will go over northwestern Mexico before cutting through Texas. DFW will see totality. Little Rock Ark is next before the eclipse goes right over southern Illinois again. Eclipse continues northeast, hitting Indianapolis, Mansfield Ohio, into KIRTLAND and PALMYRA, before exiting the country in New England. Sharon (birthplace of Joseph Smith) lies barely outside of totality.

Elul is the month of repentance in the Jewish calendar, the time of turning in all the tithes to the storehouse. We do that in Mormonism too in December in the form of TITHING SETTLEMENT.


Nisan is the month of Passover.
