Wasatch Area Earthquake Probability

Several years ago, FEMA had an earthquake analysis done for the Wasatch Fault. Another analysis/scenario was completed in June 2015. It seems like the earlier scenario was based on a 7.2 quake. The more recent scenario is based on a 7.0 quake. http://dem.utah.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/18/2015/03/RS1058_EERI_SLC_EQ_Scenario.pdf From the executive summary: "Loss estimates for the scenario earthquake indicate disastrous impact. The estimated short-term economic loss is over $33 billion. This includes (1) direct building-related capital losses (including structural, non-structural, content, and inventory) of $24.9 billion, (2) income losses of $6.9 billion, and (3) lifeline-related losses of $1.4 billion. More than 84,000 households are expected to be displaced with nearly 53,000 individuals seeking shelters. Depending on the time of day, there will be an estimated 2,000 to 2,500 deaths, and the estimated number of people injured and needing hospital care ranges from 7,400 t...

Are There Really Seven Years of Tribulation?

I've read the Book of Revelation many times, as well as Daniel. I've read the Doctrine and Covenants multiple times. I've completely read all of the Old Testament once, and several of the books more than once. I've read full New Testament several times, as well as the Pearl of Great Price. I cannot find any reference stating there will be 7 years of tribulation. This seems to be an interpretation of different events from Daniel, the Book of Revelation, and some other references. Mostly it seems to be adding two periods of time which are each about 3.5 years. I've read references of "days" of tribulation, and I know a prophetic "day" is often equivalent to a year of our time. But I haven't found a scriptural or prophetic reference regarding seven "days" or years of tribulation. The only specified period of seven years I've found is the reference to it taking seven years to clean up (burn the weapons of war) after the batt...

Should We Watch Movies?

First, recreation is good, if it is a wholesome activity. Recreation can be a physical activity, reading fiction, watching a movie, or any number of other activities. Of course, spending an excess amount of time in recreational activities isn't so good for us, if they are keeping us from improving ourselves spiritually and physically. For anyone to come out and say all movies are bad and we shouldn't waste our time watching anything can be considered self-righteous. Likewise, to say everything from Hollywood is evil is very judgmental. I happen to agree that MOST of the stuff is garbage and should not be ingested in any manner. But, there is the rare gem, and one must be very discerning. Certainly there is a lot of trash. Personally, anymore I do not care to watch something if it has to be edited. I'd rather not support the creation of that kind of material in any way. But, if I know something is "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy" I'...

Concerning Dreams and Visions

First, I have not seen any visions or dreams regarding the signs of the times or events that are coming up. So, I cannot adequately explain or even attempt to explain with any certainty what others have seen.  I'm not even sure those who have the dreams and visions feel like they can accurately interpret the meaning of all that they see and hear.  Personally, I think it would be great to have such experiences, but if I did, I would be much, much more cautious about what information I share. And I might not share much, if anything. Because I haven't had any of those dreams or visions, I can express my opinions of what they might mean. But they are my own thoughts, interpretations, and opinions.  However, I do try to do reading, study, research, and a lot of thought about how things might relate, or fit into the every evolving puzzle. Often it feels like finding new pieces to the picture, or discovering a piece that I thought fit in one way is actually turned around ...

When the Majority of the Members Turn Away From God

Here are some reasons why I'm not convinced the time is ripe for the first Utah earthquake, or for the real judgment level calamities to begin, at least not in Utah. Orson Pratt stated, "if the majority of this people will be faithful, the Lord will preserve them from their enemies, from every weapon that is lifted against them." (Journal of Discourses, 15:363, as quoted in Prophesies and Prophetic Promises by Roy W. Doxey, 1970, page 233). The same book (on the same page) quotes President Brigham Young as saying: "...we read that war, pestilence, plagues, famine, etc. will be visited upon the inhabitants of the earth; but if distress through the judgments of God comes upon this people, it will be because the majority have turned away from the Lord. Let the majority of the people turn away from the Holy Commandments which the Lord has delivered to us, and cease to hold the balance of power in the Church, and we may expect the judgments of God to come upon us; b...

Is the West Coast Due for Some Increased Seismic Activity?

While there are a number of websites I will frequent, and others not so frequently, one that I visit almost daily is http://www.suspicious0bservers.org Ben Davidson puts out a daily news report that is primarily about space weather, but it often talks about how the sun affects the earth's extreme weather and major seismic events.  He has several other sites as well:  http://earthchanges.org/ http://spaceweathernews.com/ http://magneticreversal.org/ When conditions are conducive to large quakes in certain regions he will identify those areas most likely to experience large seismic activity. The last big quake in Italy, the one in New Zealand last week, and quakes in Japan, Chile, and Argentina have all been on alert before the quake struck. Not every alert area gets a big quake (6.0 or bigger), and he's about 60% accurate. Here's his last year of quake predictions:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zRUPkFrofDO7HF41pqvg6SXTJugNGtsszqaweF43HP0/edit H...
