Conspiracy Theory
Conspiracy theories are all over.
Most people tend to fall into one of the following: they either believe the conspiracy theory, or they completely dismiss it.
Those who believe conspiracy theories often believe in more than one.
Those who dismiss a conspiracy theory usually dismiss all of them.
To me it seems that many conspiracy theories are becoming more outrageous and harder to believe.
This does not mean the entire conspiracy theory is false. However most people will discredit and dismiss them simply because of a falsehood in the conspiracy theory.
Here's where I stand. I believe most, if not all, conspiracy theories have some truth to them. Some will be more true than false, and others will be more false than true. The question is what part of the conspiracy is true?
My thoughts are many conspiracy theories are fabricated by those operating behind the scenes.
Misinformation is a key component of waging any war. However, the misinformation cannot be completely false or the enemy will not believe it. There has to be enough truth that the enemy will believe the rest, or put resources into the pursuing what might be true (but is actually false).
Misinformation is a type of diversion. It's communication's equivalent of a slight of hand or illusion.
So, let me back up a bit.
There are conspiracies. There are those who operate behind the scenes in an attempt to control and manipulate others. Some of these people are probably those already in power. Others are those who benefit from having puppets in power.
In any case, the conspiracies are to gain power, control, authority, and money.
I mention conspiracies (in plural form) because I believe there are multiple factions are work. Sometimes they may work together, if they are aware of the others, but they each work towards their own benefit and will only work with others if it progresses them towards their own goals and desires.
However, I do not believe the entire government is involved in any conspiracy. I believe most people working in the various agencies, departments, and divisions are just trying to support their families, and, in most cases, are doing their job. They are not involved in cover-ups or conspiracies.
Those who are involved with the various conspiracies, either with differing groups or at different levels, want to throw people off their tracks. The best way to do this is when a conspiracy is discovered to push that conspiracy, but add falsehoods to it. When falsehoods are revealed, most people will believe all the conspiracy to be false. Those who continue to believe the theory are ridiculed.
Then a more outlandish or another related conspiracy theory is put out there. But it may have even more holes in it.
Eventually those who believe in the conspiracy theories are portrayed as ignorant, paranoid, foolish, and are rejected by the majority.
It becomes much like the story of the boy who cried wolf. When a real conspiracy is exposed, most of the people won't believe it.
As long as those operating behind the scenes can continue to control the majority of information, through the proliferation of misinformation, then they can control what most of the people believe.
Throughout the Book of Mormon there are accounts of various conspiracies. These conspiracies caused murders. They influenced the government. They sought to establish a king and take away the freedoms of the people, particularly the freedom to worship God. They resulted in the nation breaking apart. Ultimately, the various conspiracies were a leading cause of the degeneration of the nation into unbelief and to its destruction.
Those who desire control, power, and authority over others, as well as those desiring money at the expense of others, are no different in their motives now than they were in history. They will work with, bride, influence, and sway others to their cause in any way they can. They will form conspiracies to achieve their goals.
It does not take much effort to discover that many of those in positions of power, influence, and control--particularly if they have been there for many years--like the power and authority they have, and many will do whatever they can to maintain it. Some may even join forces with those who can continue to assure their power.
Most people want to believe those in government, particularly the elected positions, are there for the good of the people. However, most of those in elected positions are there for the power, influence, recognition, and authority. In short, most politicians (at least at the state and federal levels) are there for selfish reasons. This is particularly evident by the political gamesmanship that is played, especially in election years. Most politicians do not want to do anything that might jeopardize them getting re-elected, even if that thing would be best for those they represent.
In any case, the next time you hear of a conspiracy theory remember, there may be some truth to it. You probably shouldn't believe all of it. But, you should, in the very least, consider this: What if part of it is true?
