Another Quake in Mexico

Just over an hour ago, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck south of Mexico City. Because the city was built on an old lake bed, and the ground isn't very solid, it will probably cause a lot of damage.

A 19 September 1985 earthquake, centered 220 miles away on the coast, was 8.0 magnitude. A 7.1 aftershock struck the next day.

At least 5,000 people died in the 1985 quake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_Mexico_City_earthquake Some sources say there were more than 9,500 deaths.

Now, 32 years later on the same day a closer earthquake shakes the city. It may end up causing more damage than the 8.0 because today's quake is so much closer. But it's also almost a full magnitude smaller, so it may not be quite as bad.

What if it's a foreshock?

Ten days ago, just south of the coast of Mexico, an 8.1 struck. That quake was much farther away than today's. So, is today's 7.1 an aftershock of Sep. 9th's earthquake? Or, is it a separate earthquake?

Other quakes...

Yesterday a rare 3.8 earthquake struck in Illinois.

Also, a 3.3 earthquake shook Park City yesterday. It was centered a few miles north of the earthquake clusters I commented on earlier this summer, http://fulnessoftimes.blogspot.com/2017/07/follow-up-to-bunch-of-small-tremors-in.html
