Renaming things

I can understand why some people may want some person's name removed from a building or a statue removed.

But, mostly I think too many people are way too sensitive, overly and easily offended, and fail to acknowledge the good that people do.

I'm a bit weary of the all the demands to change the name of this or that because the person did something what we find morally offensive now, but we fail to realize or acknowledge the good that person may have done.

If schools, governments, organizations, etc. yield to floods of demands to change names, get rid of statues, etc. then everything will be named using letters or numbers. There is nobody who did not do something wrong at some time in their life.

I did like one comment I read and it kind of changed my opinion about the demands for name changes. I can't remember the exact statement but the comment said something like:

I'm looking forward to the name-change movement. As we start changing names of things just because somebody did something we don't approve of now means everything will eventually be named after the Savior, the only perfect person to have lived on this world.

But, there will still be those who complain and get offended. They point to how using the Lord's name must be mixing state and religion. Or they'll be offended by Christian-implied message. Or it'll be something else.

I've heard people complain about streets having just a number of letter.

Somebody somewhere will find something to complain and gripe about.

People forget that monuments, statues, names of buildings, etc. are generally acknowledging or recognizing some good contribution that a person did.

People also forget that our understanding today is different than it was in the past.

We also forget that society's morals and values change. Fifty years ago most would be offended at the use of an LGBTQ person's name being used. In Salt Lake City a street name was changed within the past few years to be that of a prominent LGBTQ person, which of course made a lot of people happy and made the city seen as being progressive. But, everyone overlooked that particular person's past wrongs (which were apparently considerable) just because he was a well-known LGBTQ.

Too many people are too easily offended and too quickly want to judge others (including those who are dead) based on their own belief systems, without trying to understand others.
