"Prepping" for illness
In my last post I wrote about my experience with COVID and some of my thoughts. Here's what I didn't mention:
I've been spending more than six months "prepping" for illness.
It actually started about a year ago, but then slipped for a few months. I started up again in February of this year.
My "prepping" has been to:
- Eat better - more veggies, produce and foods in as close to their natural state as possible, and less processed foods. Increased fiber and less meat.
- Drink more water
- Get more physical activity -- morning walks, riding bike, walking dog, lifting light weights
- Better, more consistent sleep
- Being more consistent with vitamins
- Increasing my gratitude and finding the good in everything
I'm not perfect in any of those areas, and my previous post attests to my not getting the sleep I should. However, I'm making overall good efforts
Here are some of the benefits I'm beginning to experience:
- Better health
- More energy
- Clearer skin
- increased strength and vitality
- decreased fat
- increased/more toned muscle
I didn't check for a starting baseline, but I suspect my blood pressure and pulse rate have probably decreased. I also suspect my cholesterol levels have also dropped.
Daily side effects include:
- Better functioning digestive system
- Feeling/breathing fresh air regularly
- Feeling more energized for more of the day
- Starting and continuing the day with a better attitude
- increased gratefulness
- More alert through the day
I have also discovered I have more energy for my kids.
I believe that my increased focus on improving my health over the last several months is primarily what made the biggest difference for me with my COVID symptoms. And it's kept me from getting much in the way of colds.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I think my lack of sleep over two nights was a primarily determinant in me getting sick. Otherwise I think I may have had much milder symptoms.
And I don't have to worry about any negative side effects like one would by taking drugs or a vaccine.
In fact, potential side effects include increased resistance against all pathogens, increased life expectancy, and better health throughout my life.
